There are so many choices and styles to choose from when it is time to buy kitchen furniture. You might find yourself walking around in circles at the local furniture showroom. To solve the problem of how to buy kitchen furniture, just do a little examination of the kitchen area.

Step1

Look closely at your kitchen area. Decide what type of style of kitchen furniture will work best to compliment the rest of your kitchen and flow to the rest of your home. In addition, think about what type of kitchen furniture pieces you are going to want or need. You might want a table that fits six or eight chairs and a coordinating buffet or hutch piece. Maybe you want a beautiful antique looking hutch, so you’ll know your kitchen will only be able to accommodate a smaller round dining table that will seat four.

Step2

Measure the area in the kitchen where your pieces will be placed, measure wall to wall, distance from entrances to other rooms and possibly back doors, as you don’t want your furniture to overpower the room. Furniture that is too large for a room doesn’t ever look right. Write your measurements down. Draw a diagram of your room and notate where you plan to put various pieces. Take the measurements and diagram with you while you shop.

Step3

Decide what shape table you will want in your kitchen. If you have a long kitchen, you might want a rectangular table. If you have a bay window, maybe a round or oval table will compliment your kitchen and home best. Decide on the table style and shape before you go to the furniture showrooms.

Step4

Check the ads in the local newspaper and watch for advertising on the television. Do a search online or the Internet to get a listing of all the furniture showrooms in your area. You may want to do a little website checking to see what is out there before you hit the pavement yourself. Plan where you are going first. Take a note pad with you to take notes and you might want to take a digital camera if you are planning to view lots of kitchen furniture. This will help you keep the various “finds” straight in your mind until you make a selection.

Step5

Talk to the sales person to understand their delivery terms, costs and return policy before you actually order or pay for any items. You might be getting a great deal, but the delivery costs may be a deal killer or maybe your item is out of stock for six months. If so, keep looking. Also, check the availability of each piece of furniture. You don’t want to buy a new kitchen table and there is only one matching chair in stock for the next six months.

Step6

Keep all the tags, receipts and written warranty information from your new furniture in a file. Along with those, keep the business card of the sales person, info on the furniture company or showroom and a copy of any advertisement from the period when you purchased your kitchen furniture in the event you have a problem.

Step7

Look at online or Internet retailers for kitchen furniture if you do not have time or don’t want to do this in person. There are so many options that you might find exactly what you need without even leaving your home. If you purchase online, be sure to check the dimensions of the various pieces of kitchen furniture, availability of each piece, shipping costs, taxes, handling fees and return policies and costs.
